Richardson Independent School District (RISD or Richardson ISD) is an independent school district in northern Dallas County, Texas, based in Richardson.The 46-square-mile (120 km 2) district serves the Dallas County portions of Richardson; [a] the Lake Highlands, Northwood Hills, and Prestonwood neighborhoods of Dallas; and small portions of Garland.
The economy remains rooted in the telecommunication industry. However, Richardson's property tax base is deep and extends beyond its telecommunication roots to include other sectors including insurance, health care, technology and finance. The tax base is diverse with the 10 leading taxpayers accounting for 16.17% of total assessed value.
On May 16, 1983, Lake Highlands High School was the site of a fatal armed robbery when Billy Conn Gardner (1943-1995) entered the school's office, shot and fatally wounded 64-year-old cafeteria supervisor Thelma Row, and stole $1,600 in cash. Gardner was sentenced to death for the crime and was executed by lethal injection in 1995. [3] [4]
