Simon Rivera High School is a public high school in Brownsville, Texas . It is one of six high schools operated by the Brownsville Independent School District and classified as a 6A school by the UIL. For the 2021-2022 school year, the school was given a "B" by the Texas Education Agency. [2]
The school system was named after Raul Yzaguirre, the founder of the National Council of La Raza. [3] Richard Farias, the founder, borrowed $90,000 so he could open the school. The Houston campus originally was located in the Latino Learning Center. In 1996 the school had 100 students. In 1997 the enrollment doubled to 200.
Lopez Early College High School serves as the magnet school of the fine arts as well as the agricultural academy at Brownsville Independent School District in Texas. Lopez High School opened in 1993. It is named after the Lopez family of Brownsville who own and operate independent supermarkets in South Texas. [3]
