The Boeuf River (/ b ɛ f /) is a tributary of the Ouachita River in the U.S. states of Arkansas and Louisiana. The river is about 216 miles (348 km) long. It flows into the Ouachita near Enterprise, Louisiana. [2] The Boeuf River's name comes from the French word bœuf, which means "ox".
The WMA is located east of the Ouachita River and Louisiana Highway 559, 6 mi (9.7 km) west of Sicily Island, with Louisiana Highway 8 running along the bottom portion towards Sicily Island. La-913, La-914, and La-915 all provide WMA access. The Boeuf River runs through the northwest corner. [2]

The river flows generally south through the state, collecting the tributary waters of Bayou Bartholomew, Bayou de Loutre, Bayou d'Arbonne, the Boeuf River, and the Tensas River. The Ouachita has five locks and dams along its length, located at Camden , Calion , and Felsenthal, Arkansas , and in Columbia and Jonesville, Louisiana .

Boeuf Wildlife Management Area is located in Caldwell and Catahoula Parishes, near the city of Columbia, Louisiana. The forest overstory is a relatively closed stand of mixed bottomland hardwoods. On higher elevations the predominant tree species are willow oak , water oak , Nuttall’s oak , rock elm , sweetgum , and persimmon .
Girard is located on the west bank of Boeuf River. US Hwy 80 and the Kansas City Southern railroad also pass through Girard. At the time it was first settled, it fell into the historical boundaries of Ouachita Parish, and later Morehouse Parish, both predating the creation of present-day Richland Parish, which was established in 1868.
