The Princess Royal Hospital, also known as PRH, is an acute, teaching, general hospital located in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, England. [1] It is the main hospital in the Mid Sussex district and is part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust along with the larger Royal Sussex County Hospital and several other facilities, mostly in nearby Brighton.
The hospital, which was designed by Henry Edward Kendall Jr. in the Italianate style using a corridor plan layout, opened as the Sussex County Asylum in July 1859. [2] An extra storey was added to the ward blocks in 1864. [ 2 ]
In May 2008, the West Sussex Primary Care Trust Board recommended that Worthing Hospital be the 'major general hospital' for West Sussex and that St Richard's Hospital in Chichester be downgraded. [4] In 2016 Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WSHFT) was rated as 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). [5]
The West Sussex Youth Cabinet is a group of local representatives and four UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) representatives, who are elected by young people in West Sussex.
