The 1965 Pittsburgh Pirates season was the 84th season of the Pittsburgh Pirates franchise; their 79th in the National League. The Pirates finished third in the league standings with a record of 90–72.

In their history, the Pittsburgh Pirates have set three Major League Baseball records. In 1912, Chief Wilson hit an MLB-record 36 triples and, on May 30, 1925, the team collectively hit a major league-record eight triples in a single game.
Despite starting the season with a 1–5 record, the Pirates quickly heated up and moved above .500 for good after a 3–1 victory over the Braves on April 20. By June, the Pirates had the best record in all of baseball, and spent the rest of the summer battling with Cincinnati and St. Louis for first place in the N.L. Central.
