In 1963, Dan Blocker, who played Eric "Hoss" Cartwright on Bonanza, [4] started the Bonanza Steakhouse chain. The first Bonanza opened in Westport, Connecticut . Sam Wyly and his brother Charles Wyly bought the small Bonanza restaurant chain three years later.
Near the main house were sculptures of the horses ridden by Lorne Greene, Dan Blocker and Michael Landon that visitors could have their pictures taken either on or alongside of. The park also had a church that could be reserved for weddings near the church where the grave markers are located. In 1999, a VHS tour was made available to patrons.

Dan Blocker, was born in DeKalb, Texas, and moved with his parents to O'Donnell shortly after his birth. He is best known for playing Hoss Cartwright on the NBC television series Bonanza. The O'Donnell Heritage Museum has a room which features Blocker memorabilia; Phil Hardberger, a former mayor of San Antonio, grew up in O'Donnell.
