The present primary clubhouse is the New York Yacht Club Building, a six-storied Beaux-Arts landmark with a nautical-themed limestone facade, at 37 West 44th Street in Midtown Manhattan. Opened in 1901, the clubhouse was designed by Warren and Wetmore (1898), who later helped design Grand Central Terminal. [8]

The Snipe International Class fleet holds number 103 in the listing of Snipe fleets around the world, [2] and was the first class raced at Newport. The Lightning fleet was added in 1946. In 1953 the Comets and Lightnings of the Algonquin Yacht Club and the Snipes from the Nine Mile Point Yacht Club joined Newport.
