To use it, click on Cite at the top of the edit window, having already positioned your cursor after the sentence or fact you wish to reference. Then select one of the 'Templates' from the dropdown menu that best suits the type of source. These are: {} for references to general websites {} for newspapers and news websites

Use of templates within the citation template is discouraged because many of these templates will add extraneous HTML or CSS that will be included raw in the metadata. Also, HTML entities, for example , – , or   , should not be used in parameters that contribute to the metadata.
Simply use the citation template and <ref> tags as you would for any other footnote, but define an "image" group in the <ref> tag. To create the references list, add a second {{reflist}}, also specifying the image group. In the examples below, the citation is underlined, and the relevant parts defining the image group are in bold.
For example, {} has fields for title and chapter, whereas {{cite journal}} has fields for journal and title.
