The Extreme Football League was announced in December 2019, as a successor to the Legends Football League (LFL). [1] The announcement included the Rush, [1] a successor to the LFL's Denver Dream. The X League's 2020 season was postponed, and the league also did not operate during 2021, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2022 X League season was the inaugural season of the Extreme Football League (commonly known as the X League) in the United States. The 2017 Denver Dream were led by head coach Carlos Bates and assisted by Jason Jines and Mitchell Shipley. The Dream played for three more winless seasons from 2017 to 2019 before the LFL was rebranded again as the X League. When the X League launched, it instead had a team called the Denver Rush with an announced home as the Denver Coliseum. [1]
The Blue Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Loveland, Colorado, [5] 55 mi (89 km) northeast of Denver. It has 24 luxury suites, 777 club seats and [ 1 ] 6,800 general admission seats. The arena is located on The Ranch Events Complex (formerly the Larimer County Fairgrounds and Events Complex) and is owned by Larimer County, Colorado .

In January 2020, the Kansas City Force was established, [2] in replacement of the Nashville Knights, an LFL franchise that would have migrated into the X League but was removed after missing several procedural deadlines for participating in the 2020 season.
