Pasta and Bongo arrive at Goku's home and steal his Dragon Ball, leaving a gold coin in its place. They flee in their fighter jet, but are defeated by Goku with his Power Pole. Later that night, Goku and Bulma find Pansy being accosted by a large monster named Oolong, who has the ability to shape-shift into any other forms.
Goku prepares to deal the final blow, but the dragon dies on its own. Goku powers down and Pan catches the seven-star ball, only to find that it still has cracks in it. The ball begins to glow, and Pan gets sucked into it. The dragon reveals that he uses a hosts body to form his own.
Goku responds with a furious attack and throws Giran out of the ring. Giran reveals that he can fly, and he lands safely back in bounds. He then spits rock-hard gum onto Goku, wraply trapping him. He throws Goku out of the ring, but Goku calls the flying Nimbus Cloud to save him.

Goku uses Super Saiyan and breaks the Tamagami's warhammer. After landing a Kamehameha and a strike as Super Saiyan 2, the Tamagami surrenders, but says to earn the Dragon Ball, Goku must find it in a shell game. Goku notices the Tamagami threw the Dragon Ball away instead of putting it in the cup, winning the challenge.
Goku later names his first son Gohan in his grandfather's honor. In the anime, he later appears as an assistant to Annin (アンニン), the ruler of the "magical furnace". He is voiced by Osamu Saka in the Japanese version of the original series, Kinpei Azusa in Bardock: The Father of Goku, and Shigeru Chiba in Dragon Ball Kai.
