The Wormsloe Historic Site, originally known as Wormsloe Plantation, is a state historic site near Savannah, Georgia, in the southeastern United States.The site consists of 822 acres (3.33 km 2) protecting part of what was once the Wormsloe Plantation, a large estate established by one of Georgia's colonial founders, Noble Jones (c. 1700-1775).
This is a List of National Historic Landmarks in Georgia. The United States National Historic Landmark program is operated under the auspices of the National Park Service , and recognizes structures, districts, objects, and similar resources according to a list of criteria of national significance.
The State of Georgia's Department of Natural Resources operates the now 200-acre (810,000 m 2) historic site and opens it to the public Thursday through Sunday. [2] The site's buildings and structures include the farmhouse, a sawmill, cotton gin, gristmill, shingle mill, planer, sugar cane press, syrup evaporator, workshop, barn and outbuildings.
The house was razed in 1954 to build a factory on the site. [8] The former oldest structure with an Atlanta postal address was the Goodwin House, built in 1831. It was located at 3931 Peachtree Road in Brookhaven, Georgia, 0.5 miles (0.80 km) east of the Atlanta city limits. The house was dismantled and moved to an undisclosed location in 2016.
It is the first certified Living Building in Georgia and the 28th in the world. [2] It was designed by architectural firms Lord Aeck Sargent and Miller Hull with 100% funding for design and construction from the Kendeda Fund .
