These refugees originate from the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The first group arrived in 1986 as former fighters allied with US Special Forces during the Vietnam War. Today, most of the population lives in Charlotte, Raleigh and especially, Greensboro. Until the 2010 Census, their number has never been accurately identified or counted.
It was admitted to the Union as the 42nd state in 1889. The state's population at the 2010 United States Census was 6,724,540. Washington is often called Washington State or the state of Washington to distinguish it from Washington, D.C.
