The intent to construct the Taylorsville Utah Temple was announced by church president Russell M. Nelson during the women's session of general conference on October 5, 2019. On December 11, 2019, it was announced that the temple would be constructed on the site of an existing meetinghouse at 2603 West 4700 South. [10] [11]

The temple's site has been a gathering place for community events since the 1850s, when the first tabernacle was built. [27] The Provo Tabernacle hosted numerous events, including religious conferences, graduations, funerals, and lectures; notable visitors included U.S. President William Howard Taft and composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. Taylorsville was founded in 1799 on the land of Richard Taylor, father of US President Zachary Taylor. Roughly 60 acres (240,000 m 2) of land was taken by the Shelby County Court on Taylor's motion, and soon the town was named after Taylor himself. In 1814 the town of Taylorsville was admitted to record by the Shelby County Court. [4]
In 2010, KEYY began to be simulcast on 91.7 KEYR in Richfield, Utah and 91.9 KEYP in Price, Utah, and in 2011 it began to simulcast on 91.7 KEYV in Vernal, Utah. [9] In 2016, Biblical Ministries Worldwide purchased 91.3 K217CL in Provo, Utah, which would begin simulcasting KEYY.
