Falmouth (/ ˈ f æ l m ə θ / FAL-məth) is a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States.The population was 32,517 at the 2020 census, [2] making Falmouth the second-largest municipality on Cape Cod after Barnstable.
It was also used as a courthouse, accommodating both the assizes and the County Court. Following the implementation of the Municipal Corporations Act 1835, [4] the mayor, aldermen and burgesses of Falmouth were replaced by an elected council which met in the town hall to discuss issues such as the response to the cholera pandemic of September 1849.
The first municipal building in Falmouth was the Old Town Hall in the High Street which was built as a Congregational chapel in 1710. [2] In 1866, the corporation moved to its second municipal building, a new town hall on The Moor, now the Palacio Lounge. [3]
