Seurat completed the painting of Bathers at Asnières in 1884, at 24 years old. He applied to the jury of the Salon of the same year to have the work exhibited there, only to be rejected. The Bathers continued to puzzle many of Seurat’s contemporaries, and the picture would only be widely acclaimed many years after the artist's death (age 31).

Born in Manila, Seurat began her Hollywood career as a dancer in Ken Murray's "Blackouts", the popular postwar variety show at the El Capitan Theatre. [2] Though she primarily played Asian characters, Seurat was adept at playing various nationalities; her breakthrough role was as Louisa Escalante, the blind murder victim's sister in John Frankenheimer's The Young Savages (1961).
Neighbours was the influence for the 1992 music video "Rest in Peace" by the American rock band, Extreme. In the original music video for the song, the neighbors fight over a TV set showing the band performing, instead of a flower. The band was sued, but the controversy was quickly settled out of court.
