The main thing to know about DesignSpark Mechanical is that it's not really free. Yes, the 3D modeling part of the software is free, but if you want to make 2D engineering drawings (like most engineers will) you have to buy the DesignSpark Mechanical Drawing add-on. I don't like the deceptive marketing they're doing.

I have a prototype broken view mostly working. It is only handling vertical or horizontal breaks. I don't know if oblique breaks are used in real life, but they look difficult.
For sections that preferably run across the centre of the object and also remain there, it is finally no problem if the sections were automatically created via the menu. If you want to move the sections, it can quickly become very tricky. As a normal user, you should always keep an eye on how you have created your objects in FreeCAD.

However, with the closed four, and arced six and nine, romans.shx typeface could be difficult to read in reductions. In more recent revisions of software packages, the TrueType font ISOCPEUR reliably reproduces the original drawing board lettering stencil style, however, many drawings have switched to the ubiquitous Arial.ttf.
There is an alternate way to add dimensions to drawing views, but it's a two-part process: Add Draft Dimension s to the 3D model. Project them to the drawing page with the Draft Drawing tool. Some time ago I made a quick video showing the process for another newcomer.
