Peter Press Maravich (/ ˈ m ɛər ə ˌ v ɪ tʃ / MAIR-ə-vitch; June 22, 1947 – January 5, 1988), known by his nickname Pistol Pete, was an American professional basketball player. He starred in college at Louisiana State University 's Tigers basketball team ; his father, Press Maravich , was the team's head coach.
The award was accepted by three of Eaton's grandchildren (Elizabeth Wise's children), William Wise, Dinah Wagner and Harvey Wise. Sharing the stage with them were 27 former Oklahoma State University Pistol Pete mascots. In February 2025, Eaton was inducted into the Oklahoma State University Hall of Fame.
Pete's pistol was replaced with a lasso, and his name was briefly officially abbreviated to simply "Pete." The costumed mascot seen at games also lost his six shooters and holster belt in favor of a lasso. [7] The disarming of Pete led to a massive uproar among alumni and outsiders demanding the return of Pete's guns.
