In 1942, the Naval Air Station Glynco was established on the area now known as Glynco. Now known as Brunswick Golden Isles Airport ( IATA : BQK, ICAO : KBQK), it was previously known as Glynco Jetport following NAS Glynco's closure.
Before 1975 the airport was Naval Air Station Glynco (IATA: NEA, ICAO: KNEA). In August 1942 the U.S. Navy began building the air station on 2,400 acres (970 ha) in the northern part of the county.
