The Rugby League Pacific Championship is a rugby league tournament for national teams in Oceania.Its inaugural tournament was in 2019 as the "Oceania Cup".. The tournament replaced the Anzac Test Series (1997–2017), which solely featured Australia and New Zealand as a single match annual test.
The date of the opening fixtures at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane was announced to be Friday, 18 October 2024. The media release of 30 August also announced the introduction of promotion and relegation matches between the third-placed Pacific Cup team and the first-placed Pacific Bowl team in both the men's and women's tournaments.
On 27 November, Samoa re-engaged talks about the potential test series, [8] [9] and on 13 June 2024 the tour was confirmed, but with only a two-match test series (one short of a traditional tour), [1] [2] with the hope that the reduced schedule would allow Samoa to compete in the 2024 Rugby League Pacific Championships as well. This was the annual 2016 Anzac Test. Australia's win ended a 3-match losing streak against New Zealand. This was the first time New Zealand were held scoreless in a test-match since 2007. [5] With the victory, Australia reclaim the Bill Kelly Memorial Trophy. Martin Taupau and Sam Moa made their 10th test appearance for New Zealand.
