The RE80 is a RegioExpress service that runs every half-hour between Locarno and Chiasso in the Swiss canton of Ticino, with every other train continuing to Milano Centrale in Milan, Italy. The service is operated by Treni Regionali Ticino Lombardia (TILO), a joint venture between the Swiss Federal Railways and Trenord .
MOB also chose to electrify it from the beginning, which resulted in the metre-gauge Montreux-to-Zweisimmen line with 900 V DC electrification, completed by 1905. By 1916, it was possible to travel by train from Montreux to Lucerne with two changes – one at Zweisimmen and another at Interlaken East – then known as the GoldenPass Line.
The first IC trains from Berlin to Herzogenrath were already operated in 2009 as IC 2222/2223 and extended to Aachen in 2014. Individual trains also went to Stralsund (IC1944) or Cologne (IC1945). The train pair ICE 1545/1548 was operated with ICE vehicles for the first time in December 2020 and runs daily between Berlin and Aachen.
