The organisation gained Foundation Trust status in 2007 as Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In 2017 the trust established a subsidiary company, BFW Management Ltd (Trading as Atlas), to which 150 estates and facilities staff were transferred. The company as of 2019 employeed over 200 staff.
The hospital was originally located on Whitegate Lane (now Drive) and was opened as the Blackpool Hospital in 1894. [1] The Manchester Guardian said that the hospital owed its existence and its extensive equipment to George Chadwick Kingsbury, a GP and the founder of Fylde Medical Society, who was the first Chair of the Hospital Management Board and also the Mayor of Blackpool in 1900.
