The Stewart Dry Goods Company—alternately known as Stewart Dry Goods, or Stewart's—was a regional department store chain based in Louisville, Kentucky. At its height, the chain consisted of seven store locations in Kentucky and Indiana. The chain in its later years operated as a division of New York–based Associated Dry Goods. [1]
Stewart's would see six rebrandings between November 1985 and September 2003, being an Ayres, Ben Snyder's, Hess's and Jacobson's before finding stability under the current ownership of Von Maur. The Famous Blue Boar Cafeteria, a 1971 charter tenant, closed in 1995 along with Rax. A food court was created on the mall's upper level in 1989.
In the late 1980s, the mall name was simplified to Mall St. Matthews and remodeled to include a food court in the early 1990s, The Limited/Express, a wing dedicated to Limited Brands was added, and expanded the former Kaufman-Straus store (which had become both a Stewart Dry Goods and L. S. Ayres before closing) to accommodate a Bacon's ...

400 West Market is a skyscraper in Downtown Louisville, Kentucky. The 35-story, 549-foot (167 m) high structure was designed by architect John Burgee with Philip Johnson. It was Kentucky's tallest building when built for $100 million in 1991.
