During the COVID-19 pandemic, Blumenthal Arts debuted "Immersive Van Gogh" in Charlotte's Camp North End district. Running from June 2021 to January 2022, the exhibit ran for over 1,600 performances and had over 300,000 attendees. [4] On January 23, 2024, Blumenthal Performing Arts announced their rebrand to Blumenthal Arts. [5]
In December of that year, it was announced that Spirit Square Center for Arts and Education would be taken over by the Blumenthal organization June 30, 1997. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture would have four floors, cost $18.6 million and have 45,000 square feet (4,200 m 2 ) of gallery, classroom, and administrative space. [ 13 ]
After many unsuccessful attempts to renovate and revive the theatre, the City of Charlotte acquired the building in 1986 [7] and sold it to Foundation For The Carolinas in April 2013. The renovation will restore historical touches, such as the murals and original marquee, to replicate the original 1927 atmosphere as much as possible. [ 4 ]
