The Boleyn Tavern is a Grade II listed public house in East Ham, East London, England at the junction of Barking Road and Green Street. [1] It was built in 1899–1900, with the entrance consoles bearing a 1900 date. [1] The Tavern was frequented by West Ham United F.C. supporters due to its proximity to West Ham's ground, the Boleyn Ground.
The grounds were originally part of the Old Spotted Dog Hunting Lodge, famously used by Henry VIII.The lodge later became a pub, the Spotted Dog, still featuring parts of its original facade, is now a Grade II listed building [4] (although closed down in 2004 the structure has since fallen into disrepair). Upton Park is an area of the East London borough of Newham, centred on Green Street which is the boundary between West Ham and East Ham. West Ham United Football Club formerly played at the Boleyn Ground, commonly known as Upton Park. The term 'Upton Park' first applied to a housing estate developed to the east of West Ham Park in the 1880s. [1]
