Boost Mobile was founded by Peter Adderton in Sydney, Australia in 2000. [1] Optus began licensing the Boost Mobile brand that same year. [2]In 2001, a joint venture between Adderton, Craig Cooper, Kirt McMaster and Nextel brought the Boost Mobile brand to the United States. [3]

The deal was strongly opposed by their market competitor Optus, who argued that the approval of the deal would cement Telstra's position as the monopoly mobile operator in regional areas, stifle competition, and increase prices. [19] In December 2022, the ACCC denied the network sharing proposal, based on its impact on market competition. [20]
