Daffy Duck, tired of comedic roles, pitches a dramatic script called The Scarlet Pumpernickel to studio head Jack L. Warner.In the story, the daring Scarlet Pumpernickel (played by Daffy) outsmarts the Lord High Chamberlain to rescue Lady Melissa (Melissa Duck) from having to marry the villainous Grand Duke (Sylvester the Cat).
Melissa urges Daffy to fight back, but he backs down knowing the size of his opponent. Melissa Duck is a blonde female duck who is the dapper girlfriend to and occasional female counterpart of Daffy Duck. She was created by Frank Tashlin and Chuck Jones.
