Gerry Demos Collis (June 3, 1930 – January 24, 2024), sometimes spelled Jerry Collis, was an American football and baseball player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, California from 1967 to 1983, compiling a record of 121–49–2.

Sonya Christian is an Indian-American academic administrator and former professor who is the current 11th Chancellor of the California Community Colleges. [1] She previously served as the 6th Chancellor of the Kern Community College District from 2021–2023 and served as the 10th President of Bakersfield College from 2013–2021.
Memorial Stadium hosted the 2012 CCCAA state football title game where Bakersfield College defeated City College of San Francisco in front of a crowd of over 16,000. Memorial Stadium has had numerous Renegade football games exceed attendances of 20,000, particularly in post-season games with a national title or state title berth at stake.
In the 1970s, Bakersfield College established a satellite campus in a former department store. Although not known as the Education District at the time, it was the first college to establish a presence downtown. [1] In 1997, the Bakersfield City School District established the Downtown Elementary School nearby. [2]
