Newport is the only city in, and the shire town [5] of, Orleans County, Vermont, United States.As of the 2020 Census, the population was 4,455. The city contains the second-largest population of any municipality in the county (only neighboring Derby is larger), and has the smallest geographic area.
The city developed as a transit hub and tourist area in the second half of the 19th century, spurred by the construction of a railroad to the area. The district, roughly bounded by Third Street, Coventry Street, and Lake Memphremagog , was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The Jerry E. Dickerman House is a historic house at 36 Field Avenue in the city of Newport, Vermont. Built in 1875 for a prominent local lawyer and customs collector, it is a prominent regional example of residential Second Empire architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. [1]
