The Convocation Center, also known locally as "The Convo," was designed by architecture firm Brubaker/Brandt of Columbus, Ohio and built by Knowlton Construction Company of Bellefontaine, Ohio. The first men's basketball game in the arena featured an 80–70 Ohio victory over the Indiana Hoosiers on December 3, 1968.

The 1968–69 Ohio Bobcats men's basketball team represented Ohio University as a member of the Mid-American Conference in the college basketball season of 1968–69. The team was coached by Jim Snyder and for the first time played their home games at the recently constructed Convocation Center .
Ohio University Southern Campus is a satellite campus of Ohio University in Ironton, Ohio. The campus also has an extension in Proctorville, Ohio, and the Ohio Horse Park in Franklin Furnace, Ohio. The university began in 1956 when it hosted college-level classes in Ironton High School with an initial enrollment of 90 students. [4]
