Campobasso (UK: / ˌ k æ m p oʊ ˈ b æ s oʊ /, [4] Italian: [ˌkampoˈbasso] ⓘ; Campobassan: Cambuàsce [ˌkambuˈwaʃʃə]) is a city and comune in southern Italy, the capital of the region of Molise and of the province of Campobasso. It is located in the high basin of the Biferno river, surrounded by Sannio and Matese mountains.

San Pietro Avellana is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Isernia in the Italian region of Molise, about 50 kilometres (31 mi) northwest of Campobasso and some 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of Isernia.
