Claveria, officially the Municipality of Claveria, is a municipality in the province of Masbate, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 42,142 people. [3] Ranked 592nd among 1,488 municipalities in the Philippines. It is located on the southern portion of Burias Island, southeast of the nation's capital of Manila.
The district consists of six municipalities in the Burias and Ticao islands of northern Masbate, namely: Claveria and San Pascual in Burias island and Batuan, Monreal, San Fernando and San Jacinto in Ticao island. [4] It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Richard Kho of the Lakas–CMD. [5]
Masbate initially comprised a single district in 1898, when it elected two representatives to the Malolos Congress that lasted until 1899. The island of Burias, currently part of Masbate, also had a separate representation during such legislature. [1] Masbate later became part of the second district of Sorsogon from 1907 to 1922.
