Mentone is a town in DeKalb County, Alabama, United States. Its location is near Lookout Mountain. A number of private summer camps are located near Mentone. [3] For a number of years, Mentone has hosted an unusually large number of summer camps. [4] Mentone attracts many visitors and tourists annually, partly due to the summer camps.
SR 117 begins at the Georgia line near the town of Mentone. It winds through slightly mountainous terrain before entering the town of Mentone. This town is among the highest points in the state, at a maximum height of 1,800 feet (550 m). It descends down Lookout Mountain and enters Valley Head, which is at about 1,000-foot (300 m) elevation.
Montgomery County was established by dividing Monroe County on December 6, 1816, by the Mississippi Territorial Legislature. [1] It is named for Lemuel P. Montgomery, a young U.S. Army officer killed at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, the final battle of the Creek Indian war, which was waged concurrently with the War of 1812.
Limestone County was established by the Alabama Territorial legislature on February 6, 1818. [1] On November 27, 1821, the Alabama State legislature passed an Act that altered the boundary of Limestone County to include the area east of the mouth of the Elk River with the Tennessee River.
