Roane County was formed in 1801, and named for Archibald Roane, the second Governor of Tennessee. [1] Upon the creation of the Southwest Territory in 1790, the territory's governor, William Blount, initially wanted to locate the territorial capital at the mouth of the Clinch River, but was unable to obtain title to the land from the Cherokee.

Kingston is a city in and the county seat [7] of Roane County, Tennessee, United States. This city is thirty-six miles southwest of Knoxville. It had a population of 5,934 at the 2010 United States census, [8] and is included in the Harriman, Tennessee Micropolitan Statistical Area. Kingston is adjacent to Watts Bar Lake.

Midway is an unincorporated community in Roane County, Tennessee, United States. Midway is located on Tennessee State Route 72 (Loudon Highway) 7.6 miles (12.2 km) south-southwest of Kingston. [2] Midway does contain three schools: Midway Elementary School, Midway Middle School, and Midway High School.
