North Pass (elevation: 10,135 ft (3,089 m)) [1] is a mountain pass over the Continental Divide in Saguache County, Colorado. North Pass, is also known as North Cochetopa Pass. [3] The pass is traversed by Colorado State Highway 114 between Saguache to the southeast and Gunnison to the northwest. [2] The route is an all-weather paved road.
SH 114 begins in the west at its junction with US 50 approximately eight miles east of Gunnison.From there the route initially proceeds southward for more than twenty miles (32 km) before turning more nearly eastward and entering Gunnison National Forest and climbing up to cross the Continental Divide at North Pass at an elevation of 10,149 ft (3,093 m).
It is located along the border of Gunnison and Chaffee counties in Colorado, and is in the Sawatch Range. The road over Cottonwood Pass is the highest paved crossing of the Continental Divide in the U.S., and the second highest pass with an improved road in the state (the highest is Trail Ridge Road, US HWY 34 at 12,183 ft).
