The Minnesota Correction Facility – Stillwater (MCF-STW) is a close custody (level 4) state prison for men in Bayport, Minnesota, United States. Built 1910–1914, it houses 1,600 inmates in seven different living areas.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections is a state law enforcement agency of Minnesota that operates prisons. Its headquarters is in St. Paul. [1] As of 2010, the state of Minnesota does not contract with private prisons. [2] The first and only private prison in the state, the Prairie Correctional Facility, was closed by its owner in 2010. The Warden's House Museum is a historic house museum in Stillwater, Minnesota, United States.From 1853 to 1914 it was the official residence for the wardens of what began as the Minnesota Territorial Prison and became the Minnesota State Prison upon statehood in 1858.
The university was founded in 1964 as "Southwest Minnesota State College" ('SMSC'). It admitted its first class of students on September 19, 1967. The college became "Southwest State University" ('SSU') on August 1, 1975, and kept that name for nearly 30 years until adopting the name Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) on July 1, 2003.
