General Sir John Chalmers McColl, KCB, CBE, DSO, KStJ (born 17 April 1952) is a retired senior British Army officer and a past Lieutenant Governor of Jersey. McColl previously served as Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe from 2007 to 2011.
Educated at Shrewsbury School and at The Queen's College, Oxford, [1] McColl joined the diplomatic service in 1950. [2] He served in Laos, Vietnam, Warsaw and Geneva [2] before he was appointed Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service in 1989. [3] In retirement he was a Director of the Scottish American Investment Company. [4]
