Volkel Air Base is located near the village of Volkel.It is one of several military airfields in the Netherlands, and one of the three major operational bases of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF), the other two being Leeuwarden Air Base and Gilze-Rijen Air Base.
Volkel (Brabantian: Vollekul) is a village in the Netherlands. It is situated in the north-east corner of the province of North Brabant , south-east of the town of Uden . On 1 January 2021, Volkel had 3,435 inhabitants.
Volkel Air Base was one of two Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16AM Falcon bases, which are being replaced by F-35A Lightning II. [4] As part of NATO's nuclear sharing the US Air Force's 703rd Munitions Support Squadron, 52nd Fighter Wing stores B61 tactical nuclear weapons at Volkel for use with Dutch F-16AM Falcon.
The last F-16 mission was flown on 19 November 2004 at which time the F-16s were withdrawn to their homebase of Volkel Airbase in the Netherlands, while the KDC-10 flew the personnel back to Eindhoven Airport. The Dutch returned with F-16s to the Afghan theatre in 2005 but at that time began operating out of Kabul Airport.

In 1855 the village of Volkel founded its own parish. Uden began to specialise in the growth of cherries from 1860 onwards. In 1886, the old Petrus-church was demolished by fire and replaced by a new larger one. During World War I (in which the Netherlands stayed neutral) North Brabant had many Belgian refugees.
From 2005 until 2009 the demo team was based at Volkel Air Base. In 2010 the team consisted of members of operational squadrons from Leeuwarden Air Base. They took over the orange F-16, J-015. In 2012 and 2013 the team was based at Volkel Air Base and returned to Leeuwarden Air Base in early 2014. [2]
