Joseph Bruce Ismay (/ ˈ ɪ z m eɪ /; [1] 12 December 1862 [2] – 17 October 1937) was an English businessman who served as chairman and managing director of the White Star Line. [3] He was the highest-ranking White Star official to survive the 1912 sinking of the company's flagship RMS Titanic .
