Eagle Hotel opened in the late 1830s to accommodate farmers traveling to Wilmington to use the local grist mill. The Chicago and Alton Railroad and U.S. Route 66 were later constructed near the hotel, providing further commerce. The interior was badly damaged in a 1990 fire. 11
