Fort Phantom Hill, also called the Camp on the Clear Fork, [a] is a former United States Army installation located in Jones County, Texas.The fort was established in 1851 as part of a line of forts in Texas to protect migrants passing through the state on their way to California.
The highway runs near the eastern shore of Fort Phantom Hill Lake. FM 2833 is known locally as East Lake Road. FM 2833 begins at an intersection with SH 351 approximately 0.5 miles (0.80 km) northeast of I-20 in Abilene. The highway travels in a northward direction and passes by a housing development before leaving the Abilene city limits.
