Tekken is a fighting video game series developed by Namco and published by Namco Bandai.The series debuted in 1994 with the arcade version of Tekken and is one of the genre's and Namco's best-selling franchises, with over 55 million units sold, and is the 44th best-selling franchise of all time as of 2023.
Tekken was the first game to use the System 11, and was initially released for arcades in September 1994, [3] several months before the PlayStation's Japanese release in December 1994. Although the System 11 was technically inferior to the Sega Model 2 arcade board, its lower price made it an attractive prospect for smaller arcades.
The game ran on the same arcade board with an updated Tekken 3 engine, and thus saw major graphical upgrades when ported to the PlayStation 2. The home version features remixes of the characters' themes from the arcade version, and also features a bonus Tekken Bowl mode.
It runs in an arcade game cabinet designed by Bandai Namco Games. The Namco System BNA1 is a relatively new arcade board that runs Windows 10 IoT . A less powerful version of System BNA1, known as System BNA1 LITE has also been created for less demanding games.
