The 128th New York Infantry Regiment, nicknamed Old Steady, was a volunteer regiment from Dutchess County and Columbia County in upstate New York, during the American Civil War. Formed in Hudson, New York, on September 5, 1862, by Col. David S. Cowles, the regiment was made up of volunteers from the surrounding towns and villages.
Dutchess County is a county in the U.S. state of New York.As of the 2020 census, the population was 295,911. [3] The county seat is the city of Poughkeepsie. [4] The county was created in 1683, one of New York's first twelve counties, [A] and later organized in 1713.
The 3rd New York Regiment was authorized May 25, 1775, and organized from June 28 to August 4 from the counties of Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, and Suffolk under the command of Colonel James Clinton for five months service in Canada. [1] The enlistments of the first establishment ended on December 31, 1775. [2]
