Well, WU was bought by The Weather Channel, which then has been bought several times since then. WU was already on a skid prior to the TWC buy -- TWC just was more interested in the IP and has done nothing to the site since they've owned it. Honestly it's a miracle that the WU site is still up.. it's that much of an afterthought to them.
I get so angry about this. Intellicast was the best weather and related information site ever. Then this piece of shit weather underground comes along and completely fucks it up. Graphics look like a child's coloring book. Half the time the map doesn't even work. I would like to BEAT the SHIT out of the person responsible for this clusterfuck.
Intellicast Radar seemed to be the best radar out there- very accurate and could show weather conditions right down to the neighborhood if zooming in. Weather Underground is no comparison to the intellicast radar system, terrible, vague maps.,going from the college of radar maps to grade school.
The merger killed Intellicast. I suppose, in these days, if you want a good weather site you better be prepared to spend like $40 US a month! *IS* there a good weather site alternative for maps like radar, satellite, jet steam, and other "professional" weather maps?
IBM who purchased Weather Channel, Weather.com, and Wunderground.com few years back must have finally decided Wunderground.com is redundant and isn't worth keeping up anymore. It's been on a decline but during the last year it is so slow (both website and app) that it's really unusable.
For a while a site called hurricane-tracker.org had a link to the old intellicast radar/future radar but that has now been co-opted by weather underground also.....which sucks big time. Some"propeller heads" being controlled by some corporate bonehead that only see $ signs & could care less about whether or not their work (website) actually ...
This sucks big time. I had all kinds of Intellicast 10-day hourly forecast links in descriptions for my hiking and tennis Meetup groups. Weather Underground is a terrible replacement. Their forecast pages are clunky, slow and almost useless.
I just wanted to weigh in on the demise of Intellicast. To date, I have not found anything that is as good as Intellicast was and certainly Weather Underground did a good job of running it into the ground. When the announcement was originally made, I realized that Intellicast was more or less just a compilation of data pulled in from other sites.
I like Intellicast a decent amount as well as WeatherSpark (of course!), but The Weather Channel and others such as Weather Underground have updated (as of somewhat recently) their various displays, features, and formatting to make it a bit easier to digest all of the information.
I was using intellicast.com, but apparently they just sold their site to wunderground? Regardless, I hate wunderground's slow loading and the fact that the 5/10-day forecast is 2 clicks away. Are there any good alternatives that aren't weather.com or wunderground.com?
