We who live in Canton have the distinct pleasure of living in the biggest little town in Texas! Once every month, we play host to the nearly 200,000 visitors of our "World-Famous First Monday Trade Days." If you have visited Canton only on First Monday, you really haven’t experienced Canton at all.
Departments. Location for utility billing office, garage sale permits, building and health permits and location of city offices of City Manager, City Secretary, Accounts Payable, Code Enforcement/Building Inspector and Human Resources.
Government. The City of Canton is a General Law A city which was incorporated in 1919 as a Municipality by Van Zandt County. Canton uses a Council/manager form of government whose mission is to meet its residents' needs with the highest quality of service.
Visitors. The City of Canton not only welcomes visitors during First Monday Trade Days, but throughout the month.
Garbage Service. Garbage service has been contracted with Sanitation Solutions since December 1, 2009. A fee for garbage service is mandatory for all residential and commercial customers inside the city limits.
Where Is Canton? Canton is advantageously located in Northeast Texas along Interstate 20 and State Highways 19, 243, 198 & 64.

History Of Canton. A Slight Miscalculation. Although the City of Canton was not incorporated until 1919, the city was laid out in 1850 when Wood and Rains counties were separated from Van Zandt County and it became necessary to move the county seat nearer to its geographical center.
