I have RetroArch installed on my PC and am wanting to play PS3 games on my PC. My understanding is that I need to download and load a PS3 core via RetroArch. However when I go to "Load Core", it only goes as high as PS2. When looking at the downloads page on the RetroArch site, it lists PS3 (PSL1GHT) but the link is broken.
If you get games from Vimm or the archive.org main file they are in folder format. If you follow the guide on RPCS3s website it will tell you where to put the folders within the folder structure the emulator creates as it mimics the folder structure of the ps3 to run games from.
In many cases, sure. But a proper emulator should be able to play all the systems games, not be programmed to a specific set of games. So yes, some would make more sense to play on PC. However, many PC games don’t support controllers even if they had console support, so if someone prefers controllers using an emulator may be a better experience.
The way I explained involves transferring it from your pc to your ps3 via the internet (by using filezilla on your pc and CCAPI on both pc and ps3). The iso file is basically the game file that you want to put onto your ps3 and you can find these at various website (not providing link due to copyright) which you can easily find on a YouTube video.

Make sure your USB drive is formatted to Fat32. If transferring games from USB drive to PS3 you need to put them in the correct folder. PS3 isos go in the dev_hdd0/PS3ISO folder. Ps3 folder format games go in the dev_hdd0/GAMES folder (must be the one in all caps, the lower case one called "games" is for roms to use with RetroArch).
