it depends on what you consider comprehensive. it might be easier to find a body of water but there certainly is not the level of detailed information that the mndnr has on theirs. even the smallest bodies of waters have been surveyed. you can tell how small perch are, how big walleye are, etc etc. the wiscdnrs just tells you whats in there and maybe stocking info.

When looking at the lakefinder surveys ive always focused on category which lists the Length of Select Species Sampled count to determine if the lake has good numbers of fish. To be truthful ive never really understood how to make sense of the data presented in the section showing the trap and gill net numbers.
New lake new adventures!!! Ice fishing a new lake for the first time for me usually yields great excitement, especially when looking online at MN Dnr Lake finder (see link in reply post) to see the size of the fish that have been surveyed as well as the number of fish surveyed.

The MN DNR Lake Finder app is free. The app has lake maps and surveys for most lakes. These maps are not the same quality as the Navionics maps but it’s free.
Cannon is a good lake. The only problem is (just like almost every other southern MN lake) it gets green in the summer and walleyes are tough to come by. Spring and fall can be really good. I was out there on opener and we only caught a few but one was a 27″. Current areas are always good on all of those Cannon river lakes.
Did a little fun project for myself that I thought some here might be interested in looking at. Always thought the lake finder data from the MN DNR could be showcased better than it is, so I took it upon myself to take a crack at it. I only did Lake Vermilion to start with, but I can easily add more lakes if I choose to do so.
