  2. Shop Fox-Just another China brand or? - The Hobby-Machinist

    www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/shop-fox-just-another-china-brand-or.31958

Shop Fox is one of Shiraz Balolia's brands. Shiraz is the owner of Grizzly. He has the Grizzly line-up, the South Bend line up and the Shop Fox line up. The Shop Fox line is marketed through his Wholesale distribution branch to dealers, where-as the Grizzly line up is sold through his stores.

So just to confirm what DAT510 said above, I looked in the Shop Fox manual and did see the detail he spoke of. The 120 tooth gear literally does nothing here other than act as a spacer and any old gear could be put there for inch threading.

  4. Shop Fox M1112 not as described, should I send this back?

    www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/shop-fox-m1112-not-as-described-should-i-send...

The Shop Fox does list the spindle bore at 1.625 which I find questionable as the G4003G is 1.574 and I find it hard to believe the lathes would be a clone except that the Shop Fox spindle bore is another .051 inches larger. I think that is unlikely. So I don't think the Shop Fox is worth $500 than the Grizzly.

Considering I'm digging deeper prior to the purchase, I've ended up walking down the path of uncertainty at this point. Of course, I've looked at the Shop Fox and Grizzly units and although I think I could be somewhat happy with the Shop Fox M1018, the more I look and really think about it....to be honest, the stronger the uncertainty becomes.

  6. 24" Box And Pan Sheet Metal Brake...can't Decide Which "brand"

    www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/24-box-and-pan-sheet-metal-brake-cant-decide...

Shop Fox M1011 | $329 - Figure this is the same as the Grizzly since both companies are owned by the same people. It is cheaper and I think its looks better. It is at the top of my list currently. Woodward Fab WFBP2420 | $390 (on Ebay) - I called the company and they were very responsive and informative...only problem is they are the most ...

  7. Shop Fox M1049 Tailstock | The Hobby-Machinist

    www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/shop-fox-m1049-tailstock.109653

The tailstock on my Shop Fox M1049 lathe is just about locked up. I'm fairly certain the problem is the ram (#451) is, for some reason, sticking in the tailstock body (#463). It takes a significant amount of force to turn the handwheel to get the ram to move outward.

  8. Shop Fox M1016 lathe, change to 4 jaw chuck | The Hobby-Machinist

    www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/shop-fox-m1016-lathe-change-to-4-jaw-chuck.71393

4 jaw adjustable chuck installed... Up and running. EZ.... trust me, I'm no machinist. I'd about given up on my quest for a 5" x 4 jaw self adjusting chuck which would fit the Shop Fox 1016 series, odd face plate/backing plate adjustable set up. I had gathered some specs from the "stock" 3 jaw set up.

  9. Shop Fox M1015 Lathe | The Hobby-Machinist

    www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/shop-fox-m1015-lathe.64103

The Shop Fox at this time is not looking good for me. I want a 4-jaw, faceplate, and compound rest which are all extra costs with the Fox. And it is just barely big enough to do some things I would like to do today, so no extra margin for bigger things tomorrow.

  10. any reason not to buy a M1112 over a 4003G | The Hobby-Machinist

    www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/any-reason-not-to-buy-a-m1112-over-a-4003g.29159

I also feel that in general, purchasers are happy with the performance of the G4003G, so this re-badged Shop Fox M1112 should still serve my needs in the foreseeable future. Honestly, my less than satisfactory experience with Shop Fox customer service may simply be the result of an unfortunate dealing with one particular employee.

  11. Which Lathe After Considering Options...? - The Hobby-Machinist

    www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/which-lathe-after-considering-options.6451

Shop Fox is somehow related to Grizzly and probably made in the same factory, like most of the Asian machines. Here's the thing: I hate having large items shipped. Once from the factory to the retailer is already too much shipping IMO. So what this means is if I drive to Grizzly and pick up the 10x22 it'll be around $1400 including tax, gas and ...
