Rose Tattoo were formed in Sydney in 1976 with Leigh Johnston on rhythm guitar, Tony Lake on lead vocals and they were led by slide guitarist Peter Wells. Drummer Michael Vandersluys completed the line-up. [1] [2] [3] Ian Rilen from Band of Light soon joined on bass guitar, [3] [4] guitarist Mick Cocks soon replaced Johnston. [3]

Anderson led Rose Tattoo through five studio albums until disbanding the group in 1987, by which time he was the only member remaining from the early line-up. [7] During 1986, as Rose Tattoo was winding down following the recording of Beats from a Single Drum , Anderson joined The Party Boys for an Australian tour, but never recorded with them.

Michael Thomas Cocks (11 January 1955 – 22 December 2009), known professionally as Mick Cocks, was an Australian musician, most noted for his guitar and songwriting work with Rose Tattoo. His original sound and style heavily influenced Guns N' Roses, who recorded a cover of the Rose Tattoo
Following an Australian tour with that band in early 2023, he joined Rose Tattoo. [5] Simmons recorded a solo album in LA during 2022; after returning to Australia permanently in 2023, he formed Ronnie Simmons and the Redback Spiders in 2024 to perform songs from the album. It is set to be released in October 2024. [6]
