Muscimol (also known as agarin or pantherine) is one of the principal psychoactive constituents of Amanita muscaria and related species of mushroom. The effects of muscimol and ibotenic acid most closely resemble that of any GABAergic compound, but with a dissociative ...
Amanita muscaria, commonly known as the fly agaric or fly amanita, [5] is a basidiomycete of the genus Amanita. It is a large white- gilled , white-spotted, and usually red mushroom. Despite its easily distinguishable features, A. muscaria is a fungus with several known variations, or subspecies .

Ibotenic acid is also a scientifically important neurotoxin used in lab research as a brain-lesioning agent in mice. [3] [4]
