The Zetec can be identified by its silver cam cover with "DOHC 16v" on the bottom left. The Zetec-E has "ZETEC 16v" on the bottom left, and the Zetec-R has a black plastic cam cover. The Focus RS and ST170 (SVT) are both Zetec-R engines, despite being branded Duratec. Production of the Zeta family lasted from September 1991 through December 2004.

A cylinder head of a four valve Nissan VQ engine engine. A multi-valve or multivalve engine is one where each cylinder has more than two valves (an intake, and an exhaust).A multi-valve engine has better breathing, and with more smaller valves (having less mass in motion) may be able to operate at higher revolutions per minute (RPM) than a two-valve engine, delivering more power.
The smaller 3T engine would have fit snugly under the 2.5-liter limit, but being in the larger class allowed Toyota to stretch the 4T-GT engine to 2.1 L (2,090 cc), 89 mm × 84 mm (3.50 in × 3.31 in) for a converted displacement of 2.9 L (2,926 cc) which better suited the comparatively heavy Celica.
A revised turbocharger offers up to 20-percent quicker response at lower engine speeds compared to previous 4G63. The 4B11T offers a broader torque curve, producing more torque than the 4G63 at all engine speeds, helped by the engine's square bore and stroke design, both measure 86 mm (3.39 in).
The inline-four engines are sold under the Duratorq TDCi name by Ford, and as the HDi by Citroën and Peugeot. These are part of the DLD family. Mazda also uses the DLD engine in the Mazda2 and the Mazda3, calling it the MZ-CD or CiTD. The Ford/PSA joint-venture for the production of the DLD was announced in September, 1998. [citation needed]
